As we come to the technology age, more and more people are enthusiastically waiting for the latest soft wares to keep their gadgets up-to-date. Some even find ways to get free services which may cause your gadgets like the iPhone to function funny.
iPhone brick is when your iPhone turns into a state wherein it won’t open or the screen is just black and even iTunes cannot recognize it. This may be caused by interrupted firmware updates, downgrading or even jail breaking your iPhone. It may also be caused by skipping steps in a process or human error. To add to that, unlock carriers can also cause your iPhone to go into a bricked state.
The simplest way to fix a bricked iPhone is by resetting it. For failed updates, this is the one recommended to use.
1. Hold the Power button and Home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo and your device would boot normally.
2. If it doesn’t boot up, switch it on using the power button.
3. If it already booted up, proceed to the next step.
4. Perform a restore to using iTunes.
You can restore your iPhone through iTunes by plugging it and launching iTunes through your computer. After that, select your device at the left column corner and click the restore button. iTunes will then automatically download the suitable firmware for your device and install it. When it is finished, you will be asked if you want to restore your files. Sync your iPhone to iTunes and check if it now works normally.
If it still doesn’t work there is still the DFU mode.
One method of fixing a bricked iPhone is through switching to the DFU mode. The DFU mode or the Device Firmware Update mode allows you to connect your iPhone to iTunes without loading your iPhones operating system or boot loader which makes it different from the recovery mode. The DFU mode is used if you cannot restore using iTunes directly using the standard recovery mode. The DFU mode is primarily used to access a custom firmware in your device that is often required when jail breaking or SIM unlocking.
To put your iPhone into the DFU mode:
1. You should first connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes
2. Turn your iPhone off by holding the power button at the top
3. Press the sleep or power button and home button together for 10 seconds then release the power button.
4. Remain pressing down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you that an iPhone in recovery mode is detected.
5. Your screen will go black. Do not panic, this is what’s supposed to happen. If it is showing anything it is not in DFU mode.
6. You will get an iTunes message telling you to restore.
If problems still occur after trying these methods the last thing to do is to head straight to the nearest Apple Service Center and have your iPhone checked. But be sure to try these steps first because it will surely cost you more and they might know you jailbreaked your iPhone and void your warranty. Hope this helped!
